Agriculture is an important, driving force in our community and our way of life here on the Golden Plains. Join us on Thursday, August 10th to celebrate and appreciate our agricultural community. We will honor this year’s Farm Family and Ag Builder Award winner.
Entertainment will be a favorite storyteller…. a man who understands where we come from and our way of life here in Nebraska. Always good for plenty of laughs, please come have some fun with R.P. Smith!
R.P. Smith is the fourth generation to raise cattle on the Pine Crest ranch at his home near Broken Bow Nebraska. For the past twenty five years Cowboy Poetry has helped him support his ranching habit and also given him some chances to travel with his family to a few places they would not have gotten to otherwise, it doesn’t matter if you are headed to the Grand Canyon or the Bronc Riding in Kaycce Wyoming, traveling with six kids makes a lot memories.
Apparently a ranch upbringing was a pretty good incubator for the rodeo bug, because all of the kids are still involved with the sport in one way or another, and it looks like the grandkids are going to be pretty well mounted.
R.P. has had the opportunity to share his poetry in 16 states and Canada and he has been privileged to participate in some of the greatest Cowboy Poetry Gatherings in the Country, including the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko Nevada and state gatherings in Nebraska, Texas, Colorado, and Arizona. His brand of cowboy poetry and country commentary is a byproduct of the beef industry, which has been refined by practicing for Ranchers, Ruminates, and relatives, and is savored by folks from all walks of life.
R.P. and his wife Beth will celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary this August which happens to land almost to the hour as a total solar eclipse, with their home being very close to the epicenter of darkness, guess we won’t be taking a trip to Alaska this year.
